The zone system exists for one reason: a delivery ten minutes from the dock costs us less to run than a delivery ninety minutes out, and zones let the order minimum reflect that instead of averaging everyone into one number.
Each zone has its own case minimum. Closer zones have lower minimums, further zones a bit higher. Delivery day: what to expect when the truck arrives
A wholesale delivery should be boring, in the best way. Here is the routine our regular accounts settle into.
Before the truck leaves
Orders are picked at the warehouse and loaded by route. If something on your order is short, you want to hear about it before the truck leaves, not at your back door, which is one more argument for ordering a day or two ahead instead of same morning.
At your door
The driver brings cases to your receiving area on a hand truck. Count cases against the invoice while the driver is still there. It takes two minutes, and it is the moment to catch anything short, damaged, or swapped. Make receiving fast
Clear a landing spot before your delivery window and know where the first cases go: cooler backstock first, shelf stock second. Stores that receive well spend under fifteen minutes on a weekly order. Stores that do not, block their own register with a pallet of soda at lunch rush.
Outside our local zones: LTL freight nationwide
Beyond the local delivery radius, orders ship LTL freight. LTL means less than truckload: your order shares a trailer with other freight, and you pay for the space and weight you use. It is how businesses in Arizona, Nevada, and well beyond order from us every week without anyone driving to Los Angeles.
Here is what the freight process looks like from your side:
- Your order is built onto pallets at our warehouse, stacked to ride, and professionally shrink wrapped so cases arrive the way they left.
- The freight quote is calculated at checkout, based on your delivery address and the size of the order, so you see the real landed cost before you commit. No quote by email, no surprises on the invoice.
- A carrier delivers to your business. Most commercial addresses with a dock or a roll up door are simple. If you need a liftgate because there is no dock, say so up front through the contact page so the right truck gets dispatched.
How to keep your delivery and freight costs down
Whether you are local or freight, the levers are the same, and they are all about density.
- Order bigger, less often. Delivery and freight both price better as the order grows. Two weeks of inventory in one drop almost always beats weekly half orders on landed cost, if you have the backroom space.
- Fill the pallet. On freight, a pallet costs roughly the same to ship whether it is stacked to four feet or five. If you are close to a pallet break, adding cases you will definitely sell usually lowers your per case cost, not raises it.
- Mix drinks and snacks. Snacks are light for the space they take and ride on top. Filling out a beverage order with chips and candy gets you a fuller truck for very little extra freight.
- Keep a standing base order. Your fast movers barely change week to week. Locking them into a standing order keeps you above the minimum without thinking about it, and makes your delivery slot predictable.
